Rudi Verheijen, an engineer pur sang, discovered 3D printing several years ago. The extra income through 3D printing helped him to open his own business TR3DEE with engineering and machine vibration testing as core business while incorporating 3D printing as an extra service. In his spare time he 3D prints as well, being it for the kids to educate and involve them with the technology, or for an upcoming christmas market in Antwerp. Rudi prints christmas tree-led lights, stunning tealight holders, ornaments and more. All of his prints will be sold as he proved on last years christmas market. "I was following the development of 3D printing since I was 25 years old. Back then it was still very experimental. 2 years ago I decided to buy my own 3D printer. Tripodmaker was my choice because of the big build volume as it would certainly open more possibilities and it did. The size seemed perfect for printing lamp shades and larger objects as well as smaller objects that come out very fine. The Belgian origin of the machine was appealing to me as troubleshooting feels like around the corner. Also, as a entrepeneur, supporting the local market is important for me." says Rudi Verheijen

CONCLUSION

3D printing can certainly open more possibilities in your professional and personal life. This case illustrates both benefits of professional and private usage of a 3D printer. The service is incorporated in another business that at first sight doesn't match with 3D printing. Yet, Rudi, being an expert in measuring and analysing engine vibrations manages to encourage his clients to order 3D printed parts as well. As the technology is evolving quickly it is certainly a smart move to learn 3D printing even if at the beginning you might not know where it will bring you and which passion it might ignite. As a hobby it provides not only hours of fun, but it can also insure an extra income with the right ideas. Professionally, you can benefit in many ways starting with a stronger client engagement or even emerging to other markets with your business.
